Ramsbury 2-4 Robins U9
U9s through to Trophy Event final!
Well, we have worked very hard to get to the semis. Having gone a goal down in the quarters vs Devizes, we had to dig deep to get where we were today. Unfortunately due to an injury in a tournament the day before, we didn’t have Marcus available, which was a shame, but Sol stepped up to cover the CM position. Otherwise we had a full strength team.
We didn’t know anything about Ramsbury, but it didn’t take long for them to show us. They scored the opener. We started slow, and were giving them too much space. They capitalised and scored. We reminded the boys what we have gone through to get here, emphasised that we can play better, and we needed the fight in us. This was the start of the turn around.
The game progressed, where we came back, and they took the lead again, and then we equalised, with Sol and Charlie both scoring. Sean made a very good save towards the end of the 1st half. Showing bravery to press their striker with the ball, and took a very strong shot into the stomach, preventing the goal. However he was hurt and had to come off for Jo, who then went on to make some good saves too.
Arnav and Brodie played much better in the 2nd half, communicating better. Tiago listened to what we were saying, and gambled his runs a lot more up front to anticipate the passes and finally Sol played a through ball to Tiago, who then chipped the keeper to put us ahead. Charlie and Tom were continuing to work hard on the wings, and were really running their socks off.
Aron and Freddie both had performed well in the first half of the game, with Freddie almost scoring a few, but with the game so close now, showed great understanding and teamwork, in encouraging from the sideline. A Ramsbury player then hand balled in the box, and we were awarded a penalty. Sol stepped up, and smashed it home to extend our lead. We almost scored a few more, but that was enough to seal our fate. Our first ever competitive final was now set, and we were so happy.
The boys have been listening very well to their coaches. We still seem to start slow, but when we regroup, and focus on the weaknesses, the boys have the ability to overcome these, and have enough strength to turn games around. 2 very happy coaches, keep up the good work boys. Looking forward to the final!
