Robins on the Road: Tournament successes in Bath, Lambourn and Didcot

It's been a succesful weekend on the road for Robins teams as our young players hit the summer tournaments, travelling in all directions across the age groups. The U9s did superbly on Sunday at the Bath Arsenal Juniors tournament, winning the tournament in their age group. After a slow start initially, they did enough to get out of the group stages and then really kicked on in the knockout stages. They battled their way through to a thrilling final which they won 3-2.

Coach and club chairman Paul Wainwright commented "The boys played really well as a team, all played well as individuals, but it was strong team performances that brought the rewards in the end". Well done lads!

Meanwhile, U7 Whites were over in Lambourn and were only just pipped to the trophy in the final. The team played really well in the group stages, winning 3 games and drawing 2 and going through to the knockout stages, as joint top of the group, then progressed through the knockout stages to the final where they were defeated by a strong Ramsbury side. Manager Phil Trueman was deligheted with the players' efforts, commenting "It was a great day where all the boys showed some impressive skills learnt in training. The boys should be very proud of their achievements so far and getting to a final is great."

Last but not least, the new look U13s line up had their first competitive outing in a strong Didcot Town tournament, facing JPL teams and the team who eventually won the overall Cup final in a strong group stage. The lads more than held their own and gave a good account of themselves to get through to the knock-out Plate competition where they progressed to the semi-final via a penalty shoot-out, losing to the eventual final winners on another round of penalties. Manager Paul Davis was really pleased with how well the players performed "The lads gave an extremely good account of themselves and have every right to be extremely proud of themselves. This was their first competitive outing together and promises more to come - we're in for an exciting season next season".
