Congratulations to Robins U7 White who have followed up on a successful Winter Trophy Event campaign by also winning the Spring Trophy Event, making it a 100% 2 out of 2 this season.
In the Winter trophy event, the U7s were in a group of 4 teams, first going away to Blunsdon in the semi and eventually winning on penalties after a hard fought match ended in a draw. Two weeks later, the U7s played a strong Highworth team in the final. Again another very close contest which also ended as a draw, with plenty of goals flying in at both ends! Again Robins held their nerves to win the penalty shootout
The Spring tournament was held at Foundation Park and this time the format was a group 6 teams who all played each other once, with the winners being the top team in the group. The team played fantastic from the beginning, and went unbeaten all afternoon, winning 4 games and drawing one to top the group and scoop the siverware
The team has come a long way since forming in September and coaches Mark and John are extremely proud of the team - not only for what they have achieved on the pitch but also how they have made new friendships off the pitch. Mark commented "The lads have been a pleasure to coach and we are now looking forward now to the summer tournaments and the challenges we will face next season."
The idea of the "Trophy Events" is an FA initiative to allow younger age groups to gradually get used to playing competitive football. Previously, teams would go from playing two years of development/friendly games where no results or League tables were published, straight into a 20+ week season-long league competition. The aim of the Trophy Events is to introduce the competitive element gradually and intersperse competitive fixtures with development league fixtures.
